Maybe you can’t vote for the Academy Awards winners, but you can still decide which movies you like, what you think about the TV broadcast (and the hosts), and the biggest question of all . . . Did ABC and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences do a good job with the mobile application?

The application, which is available on iPhone and iPad, but not Android or Blackberry, consists of two sections: The Oscars and The Academy.

Some of the most active movie studios in the application space are Paramount Studios, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. Here is a look at what they are doing, along with an apples-to-apples review of one of their most popular superhero applications.

PARAMOUNT STUDIOS

One week after the Golden Globe Awards aired, a person might go into the iPhone App Store, BlackBerry AppWorld or the Android Marketplace trying to find products related to this year’s top movies. Perhaps many of the titles will even be listed in one place, such as a search for “top movies,” “movies” or “Golden Globe winners.” Unfortunately, it does not work so easily.

For example, type “top movies” into the App Store search and the results come back with fewer than 25 items. And of those, there is not a single branded movie application. No “Avatar,” “Up In The Air” or even “Twilight” and “Ghost Busters.”
